Helles'Hell' in German means 'bright' or 'light' and refers to the brews color (ie 'pale' or 'golden'). Paulaner of Germany introduced the first Helles (light) beer in the 1920s as an alternative to the some of the traditional darker beers. This style is known for its smooth, well-balanced maltiness and unassertive hop bitterness. |
